Curious about her birth mother, Jenna Caldwell leaves Chicago and sets off to find the woman who gave her up for adoption. But her life is turned upside down one fateful night. After surviving an automobile accident, which leaves one woman dead, Jenna realizes her life has been stripped away. She’s trapped in the body of another woman.

Jack Bolinger finds it hard to believe his wife doesn’t remember him, their daughter, or their rocky marriage. He finds it even harder to believe he’s falling in love with this woman. But something is different about her since the accident, which left her with amnesia, or so he thinks. In fact, he swears she isn’t the same person at all. However, when he suspects that prior to the accident she may have hired someone to kill him, he soon realizes the mistake he’s made by trusting her.

Jenna must try to stop a vicious killer from harming Jack. At the same time she must try to prove her love for her newfound husband, along with proving her innocence. Starting over with so many lies standing between them, and a killer on the loose, could be the biggest challenge of their lives. But these two people have no choice but to forget about their pasts and let love save them.

CHANCES ARE is the first book in the Chance At Love series.

CHANCES ARE CHANCE AT LOVE Book 1 edition by DEBBY CONRAD Contemporary Romance eBooks

This novel is well written, with all the punctuation marks in the right places, which is a new "high standard" that too many of today's indie authors fail to meet. (A driver hit the breaks, not brakes, in her car, but I can forgive the things spell check won't catch.)

The characters are engaging, and fans of the romance genre are likely to enjoy the tropes rather than do what I do, which is to wish for a hero who isn't rich, handsome, arrogant, overbearing, but somehow deep down a decent guy who can become a loyal, devoted husband.

Mark Twain has a classic case of mistaken identity with his Prince and Pauper, and since then, switching bodies (e.g. the movie "Freaky Friday") has become a popular theme. A similar theme in the movie "Big" has Tom Hanks suddenly occupying the adult version of his little-boy body.

So, yes, this story delivers some fun and frustration as the heroine struggles to prove who she really is.

For me, plot holes get in the way of this body switching thing. To keep the story going, too many contrived situations have to occur.

So why did I read this novel, if it's outside my usual favorite (literary, historical, sci-fi, character vs plot-driven)? Well, sometimes I just want escapist reading with a happy ending. This novel delivers. And it comes without the side effects of Prozac. I do understand why romance novels sell so well. Good story tellers keep me turning pages even when the story is predictable.

I can't help but wish for more authentic, more credible, situations and characters, and more streamlining (less exposition, less telling), but in all, this is a novel that fans of the romance genre can buy with confidence.

I really liked this story. Jack is a man fed up with his wife. Just wants her out of his life. Finding her sleeping with his cousin was the last straw. Paige was a woman who arranged her life to get what she wanted. And then there's Jenna. She works in a salon and is always late. But not because she's irresponsible. She's working two jobs to keep her apartment and her parents home, par e nuts who died without telling her she's adopted. In her search for her birth mom, she ends up in a car accident with Paige, and is hit by lightening. Her body was dying, and somehow she ended up in Paige's body.

Where or where could things go from there? I enjoyed watching the relationship between Jenna and Jack. I was a little disappointed that the relationship of Jenna and her birth mother, Evie, wasn't brought to conclusion.
In order to read this book you have to kind of suspend belief on some parts of it, but hey isn't that what you do with fiction? I liked it and it really did keep me into the story and there were a couple of surprises. Jenna (MC) was really likeable and soooo confused about what was going on. I have to admit a few times so was I. Romance had its part of the story with the love/hate thing going on but I was thinking how in the world is this going to work out?
I enjoyed this off-the-wall story. I thought it was an interesting idea and kept reading to learn how it was going to be resolved.

My problem was with the poor editing. This writer seems to have a problem conjugating verbs. It is distracting when she uses "were" when the word she needed is "was." For example she wrote, "It were as if she'd never stepped foot inside a nice hotel in her life." This happened so frequently I found it annoying.
I hate not being able to do a review right after I finish a book but I'll give it a shot. Although thus book reminds me of another book I've read before (the name escapes me right now) it was still a good read. I liked the paranormal elements of switching bodies and when you mix in a little mystery it only gets better.

Jenna is looking for her birth mom but before she can find her she is killed and awakes in the body of the woman who hit her, Paige. Now Paige really isn't a great wife or mother but she is a good person deep inside a loves her daughter. Jenna knows from the start that she's not Paige but she has no one to talk to about it who might believe her so she tries to just leave but feels guilty abandoning Madison, who is Paige and Jacks child.

Jenna/Paige barely spends time with her daughter and she is suppose to be why Jenna/Paige stayed but she didn't add much to the story beyond that which I thought was strange. Jenna wanted to have kids of her own and now when she's trapped in the body of a woman who has a kid she is not very motherly. I guess I can see why because she was planning to leave but you would think that with her own search for a mother and all she would be more sympathetic to how Madison feels especially since she is only 6.

The relationship between Jack and Jenna/Paige is complicated. Jack was attracted to Paige but he only married her cause she was pregnant which could be why he neglects hee and constantly works. He provides Paige with anything she needs but him s not that that is an excuse for her own behavior. However, now that Jenna is in Paige's body Jack sees a difference but doesn't think that it will last once she gets her memory back he even says it's like she's a different person. To be honest I'm not sure if Jack is in love with the new Paige or what the old one could be like if she had ever felt really loved. Jack talks a lot about Jenna/Paige looks because he is attracted to her he always has been it was her personality he didn't like. Jenna has an awesome personality but who knows if he would have loved what she looked like on the outside.

Maybe I am looking to closely at this but I think that the author could have done a better job in making me believe he was in love with Jenna. At some later date I will have to read this again yo see if I overlooked something or not but overall I believed that Jenna/Paige could be the same people. From what I can tell Paige grew up poor with a possibly drunk abusive father and her only family is a brother who is a skimmer like herself. Jenna was giving away at birth but she was adopted by loving people which could be why she is so much nicer than Paige. I repeat Paige is not that bad. True she did some bad things but when you read the accident scene you can see how much she cares about her daughter and the unknown woman she hit. Think about it is suppose to be selfish and pretentious but she gets down in the dirt in the middle of a storm to comfort someone. If the author would gave written her as being worried about getting her close dirty or something I would have just assumed she was just like everyone thought she was. I think she could have been a better person deep inside but that she didn't know how to relax because she never had it easy in life and had to work/con her way to a better life and once she had it she knew she had lied her way there so she was ultimately unhappy.
