.|.Forever.|.

Date: 6th October 2007
Music: To where you are, Josh Groban
Mood: Hmmmm.... *smile*

I'm back. I know i haven't been here much since trials began, but i'm back.. for the moment. Well, the past week has been enough to push me off the brink of sanity. My bro was having PMR and so i didn't have to go to school. With mum in Japan and Dad working, that leaves me home alone. With loads of company in the form of Chemistry, Add Maths, Physics, Biology, and so on. And when my bro is home, he barely speaks to me, except over lunch, then he goes into his room to study. Can't blame him, though. Imagine my relief when he came home on Friday after his last paper. He came through the door and said "I'm hungry!" and i couldn't help but laugh. It's nice to finally have my brother back.

Anyway, was in Youth today, as i am every Saturday. Before the BBQ, Abel and Joyce delivered a sermon entitled "Get a Life". I found it interesting that Joyce chose to talk about 'Forever'. [And that i saw a few pictures on her slides that seemed pretty familiar. xD]

Before i begin, allow me to say that i am not snubbing anyone here, so please don't feel hurt by what i say. If you do, if i challenge your values, if you're a firm believer in 'forever', i sincerely apologise, but this is something i'd like to say.

When Joyce asked the question "Do you believe in 'forever'?", I immediately shook my head. Forgive my bitterness, but i don't. Or rather, didn't. People who know me know how much words mean to me. Which is exactly why i detest it when people use the word 'forever' so carelessly. Like the words 'love', 'friend', that have been so abused and misinterpreted, i wonder how people utter such words so easily, how words are so easily at their disposal. How can you be so sure that things will turn out that way? Truth is, you can never be sure. Times change, people change. How can you promise forever when the future itself is unknown? Whatever happened to honouring your words? Keeping your promises? Don't you think of those who cling on to promises? People who place their hopes and expectations, dreams even, on a syllable that may have simply fallen from your lips? I know i sometimes forget promises i've made, getting caught up in other things. But i simply despise it when i find "Best friends forever" scrawled in my notebook by someone who can't even begin to understand the type of person i am. Sure we talk, we laugh, we greet each other in between classes. But surely you can't proudly proclaim, or, Heaven forbid, promise that we'll be best buddies forever. Has anyone even thought of how long forever is? Does the 'best friends forever contract' expire once a party is dead? Really. Even one of my best friends and i aren't sure that we'll always be as close as we are now, say, in 20 years time. We do try, but no promises. And i think that the mere fact that we're trying is more beautiful than any promise that may very well turn out the opposite way. My father always tells me how important and powerful words are, and believe me, 'forever' is one of them.

I was so absorbed in listing down the points on how 'forever' can't possibly exist when Joyce said "Forever is an offer of eternal life". Then i could breathe. It never ceases to amaze me every time God's gift of grace to me, salvation, is expressed in a different way. How the new expression once again captures how beautiful and precious my salvation, the promise of eternity in Heaven, is. And for the umpteenth time in my Christian life, i fell in love all over again. Felt the security and assurance that there was a forever that i could believe in. Daddy's forever- eternity. A God that remains the same forever, and so i can safely put my hopes, dreams, aspirations, trust in Him. And rest assured that with Him, i will never be disappointed with unfulfilled hopes or unkept promises.

And suddenly, my heart and feet felt lighter than they have in weeks.

Hope you all have a great week, dear readers!! =]

To forever and beyond!!
~ Lyn.
