Why, oh why, cruel world, must you put the Rugby World Cup during my trials??!!!!!
What more, the All Blacks are playing against Italy tonight and all i got to watch was the first half.... !!!!
*breathes in*...
Fine, to compensate after being forced to study Mod. Maths [a pathetic comparison, if you ask me..] i shall briefly post on rugby, and my sentiments as well as undying love [okay, corny betul] for it.
Since i was a little girl, when i wasn't engrossed with My Little Pony on the computer, falling off bicycles, cutting my own hair, fighting with my brother, making his Pikachu zap my dolls, and what no, i was at the stadium or the club, watching rugby. Fine, i wasn't, i was running around the stadium, watching cans of beer explode once they were shaken and thrown off the third floor. That was my brother's doing by the way, not mine. But anyhow, somehow, rugby got integrated into my list of interests, my dad being a veteran rugby player himself.
The All Blacks doing their new Haka.
Allow me to introduce you to my favourite people in rugby, the All Blacks. The team represents New Zealand and plays against the Wallabies from Aussieland and Springboks from South Africa during the Tri-Nations series.
I don't / can't faithfully watch as many rugby matches as i would like to, i admit. But believe me, you don't want to be in a Yeang household when we're watching rugby- it's like a scream-fest between my mum, me, and my dad. My bro and i simply have a laughing competition between us. xD.
Wallabies captain, George Gregan, tackling All Blacks Captain Richie McCaw.
Rugby- a real man's sport.
Forget football, there is only true satisfaction in watching the landing of that beautiful and perfectly planned try, to see the brilliant back-up and having those players at the right place at the right time, for them to finally catch the ball, do a sharp side-step, dodge and elbow through the defence of the opponent, and sprint the remaining meters to a cheer-worthy scoring of a try, that can only be seen in a game of rugby.
Rugby- the game where men are constantly getting knocked over, scraped, bruised, elbowed, and tackled to the ground at astounding speeds, then without so much as a groan, get back on their feet and start running again.
The All Blacks playing against the Wallabies.
Probably the only time that the All Blacks don't have my full support is when they're playing against the Wallabies, who are my second favourite. Ah, the both of them playing against each other is like watching a powerful dance, each of them desperately trying to outsmart each other's steps. Probably the best times are when George Gregan is playing, but unfortunately, he's played his last game before retirement.
Remember the last Rugby World Cup. Despite the fact that we were holidaying in New Zealand, we still went back to the place we were lodging to watch the finals between the Wallabies and England. For goodness sake, we know lah, that so many people simply idolize all those England football players like Beckham, but please, if all they're good for are playing soccer, please keep it there. Unbelievable when England won the RWC '03 simply because of Johnny Wilkinson's drop goals. [Drop goals are when 3 points, (the same points given for a penalty) are scored by kicking the ball between the goal during the process of trying to get a try.] Where's the gripping intensity and anxiety of players battling and dodging opponents when as soon as you get the ball, you simply put a kick [as good as the kicks are, as i give Wilkinson credit for] and score more points that way?!! This is rugby, not football. Such a disappointment.
So All Blacks, please, please, please beat Italy flat tonight!!!
Ka tu te wanawana!!!
Rawr,
~Lyn.
